Dr. Syed Tipu Sultan is one of Pakistan’s most distinguished anaesthesiologists, with an illustrious career spanning clinical practice, medical education, and healthcare leadership. He has served as Head of Anaesthesiology and Medical Superintendent at Civil Hospital Karachi, Principal of Dow Medical College, and Dean of Anaesthesiology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan. After completing his MBBS and training in the UK, including specialization at Charing Cross Hospital, London, Dr. Sultan returned to Pakistan in 1976 to advance the field of anaesthesiology. He played a pioneering role in establishing one of the first intensive care units (ICUs) in the public sector at Civil Hospital Karachi. Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Sultan is widely respected for his contributions to philanthropy, social welfare, and medical relief efforts, including his active role during the 2005 earthquake. He has also been associated with the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation and served as Principal of Bahria Medical University Karachi. He currently serves as Chairperson of the Sindh Healthcare Commission. Known for his humility, wit, and dedication to service, Dr. Sultan continues to inspire the medical community in Pakistan.

Dr. Etizaz Haider Kazmi is a Senior Consultant Anaesthesiologist and Intensivist with over 36 years of clinical expertise, including more than 25 years in cardiac anaesthesia. He is a recognized leader in the field, currently serving at Bahria International Hospital, Rawalpindi, where he specializes in cardiac and general anaesthesia, as well as intensive care. Dr. Kazmi has held various senior positions, including Professor of Anaesthesia & Pain Medicine at Islamic International Medical College and Consultant Anaesthetist at prominent institutions such as Shifa International Hospital and AFIC/NIHD. His qualifications include FCPS and MCPS in Anaesthesiology, with extensive postgraduate education and training. He is also a CPSP-approved supervisor/examiner and has contributed significantly to medical education, particularly in anaesthesia and critical care. With numerous peer-reviewed publications and a history of national and international speaking engagements, Dr. Kazmi remains committed to advancing the fields of anaesthesia and intensive care through research and education.

Dr. Rashad Siddiqi is Professor of Anaesthesiology at Army Medical College Rawalpindi, working as Consultant Cardiac Anaesthesia and Director Intensive Care at AFIC-NIHD. With almost 50 publications to his name, he has a keen interest in teaching and training and has been an instructor for CEEA and BASIC Courses. He is American Heart Association (AHA)’s Regional Faculty for Middle East & North Africa (MENA) region since 2023. Dr. Rashad has been a part of Team APICON for last 25 years and has remained part of 7 highly successful International Conferences at Islamabad and Bhurban under this banner.

Dr Syed Muzaffar kirmani is Professor of Anaesthesiology at CMH Lahore Medical College, working as Consultant Cardiac Anaesthetist/ Head of department of Cardiac Anaesthesia & Intensive Care at Army Cardiac Hospital Lahore. He has been an instructor for CEEA, BASIC courses. He is also an AHA certified BLS and ACLS instructor and Training centre administrator at ACH Lahore. He has 25 research publications to his name with cardiac intensive care being the primary focus of his interest! He has been member of team APICON for the last 18 years, conducting 5 successful international conferences in the process!
Dr. Faraz Shafiq Aga Khan University, Karachi Workshop on Precision Neuroanaesthesia APICON 15 Dr. Shafiq is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anaesthesia at Aga Khan University, Karachi, Pakistan. He serves as the Director of Neuroanaesthesia Services, focusing on advancing perioperative care for neurosurgical patients. He is the Founding Director of the Peri-operative Neuroanaesthesia Fellowship Program, which has been accredited by the International Council for Perioperative Neuroscience Training (ICPNT) under his guidance. His academic and clinical interests include awake craniotomy, neuroanesthesia practice optimization, and improving perioperative neurological outcomes.
Dr. Matloob Shajar Foothill Medical Center, University of Calgary Regional Anaesthesia Workshop APICON 15 Dr. Nabeel Sultan serves as a Consultant Anaesthetist at the University Hospitals of Leicester. His clinical interests lie primarily in regional anaesthesia—specifically trunk, lower limb, and awake upper limb procedures. In addition to his clinical practice, he contributes to postgraduate medical education as an instructor for regional ultrasound-guided regional anaesthesia courses.
Dr. Suraphong Lorsomradee Chiang Mai University, Thailand An internationally recognized educator in anesthesia and critical care, this nominee has dedicated his career to advancing clinical practice across Asia, particularly in resource-limited settings. Following a fellowship in cardiac and transplantation anesthesia in Belgium and a PhD from Keio University in Tokyo, his research has focused heavily on hemodynamics, cardioprotection, and functional recovery. He has translated this expertise into tailor-made workshops and live demonstrations throughout Southeast Asia, advocating that any technique can be successful if its limitations and pitfalls are thoroughly understood. Driven by a commitment to his peers, he co-founded multiple vital organizations—including the cardiac and transplantation anesthesia societies of Thailand, and the Asia Oceanic Community of Intravenous Anesthesia (AOCIVA)—to bridge the gap between advanced university hospital technologies and accessible, non-invasive regional platforms. Currently leading international cooperation and strategic planning for Thailand's council of graduate studies, he possesses extensive experience in multi- and interdisciplinary collaboration across Thai-international universities. His workshops intentionally move beyond clinical training to foster research inspiration, multicultural adaptation, professional happiness, and work-life balance despite widespread manpower shortages. Backed by an Indian government award investigating sociological barriers to implementing healthcare protocols, his career reflects a deep understanding of cultural diversity and a lifelong willingness to connect people. His robust collaborative track record, leadership in professional societies, and unwavering dedication to uplifting the Asian medical community make him an ideal nominee for the WFSA Council.
Dr. Xavier Falières Albert Schweitzer Hospital, Dordrecht (Netherlands) Regional Anaesthesia Workshop APICON 15 Xavier Falières is a consultant anaesthesiologist and French national who has been living in the Netherlands for 35 years. Qualified since 1998, he has worked since 2002 as a full-time perioperative anaesthesiologist at the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Dordrecht, a major teaching hospital near Rotterdam. He trained initially in general and emergency medicine in France, followed by specialist training in anaesthesiology and intensive care at the University of Liège (Belgium), and in hospital and medical management at Tilburg University (Netherlands). He served as Medical Director of the operating theatre complex for twelve years and continues as a senior advisor. He is President of the Dutch Society for Day Surgery (NVDK) and a member of the Executive Committee of the International Association for Ambulatory Surgery (IAAS), supporting countries developing ambulatory surgery programmes. He is an international lecturer and educator, particularly active in Asia, with longstanding experience in training and system development in resource-constrained settings.
Dr. Faisal Shamim Aga Khan University, Karachi DAS-accredited Difficult Airway Workshop APICON 15 Dr. Faisal Shamim is an Associate Professor in Department of Anaesthesiology, Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, and a recognized leader in airway management with over 20 years of clinical and academic experience. He serves as an airway lead and organized Difficult Airway Society (DAS)– approved and verified airway management courses and workshops, including the first such programs in Pakistan and their expansion nationally. He has been awarded ‘Fellow of the Difficult Airway Society (FDAS)’ in 2025 for contributions to airway management, DAS and the specialty through education, research, clinical leadership and societal involvement Dr. Shamim has contributed to international airway research as Pakistan’s national lead for the intubateCOVID registry and is actively involved in global airway education through collaborations with DAS, EAMS, and other international societies. He will lead the ‘Difficult Airway Workshop’ at the APICON 15
Dr. Amer Majeed King Faisal Specialist Hospital, Riyadh Workshop on Spinal Sonography APICON 15 Dr. Majeed is a Consultant Anaesthesiologists at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital Riyadh. HIs area of expertise is Anesthesia for Hepatobiliary and Abdominal Organ Transplantation. With almost 50 international publications, he has multiple international presentations and lectures. Dr. Majeed has been an enthusiast for Regional Anaesthesia from his training days; He became interested in Spinal Sonography in 2007 when his job commitment shifted more towards obstetric anaesthesia. He was elected as a RAUK board member, and became part of its teaching faculty in 2011, whereby he had an opportunity to participate in teaching RA and spinal sonography to broader audiences.
Dr. Chris Till Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Lancashire (UK) Council Member, RCoA I qualified from Southampton University Medical School in 1987. After House Officer posts in the South West, I started my Anaesthetic training at Torbay Hospital in 1989. I spent a year in Wanganui, New Zealand on an ICM and Medical placement and returned to the UK 1990 to start my Anaesthetic Registrar and Senior Registrar rotations in the North West. I was appointed as a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary in 1996. I have since worked as a substantive Consultant at Noble’s Hospital on the Isle of Man and am now a Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. Apart from Intensive Care Medicine, my main interests are in Paediatric and Regional Anaesthesia. I am the chair of the Examinations Development and Assurance Group (EDAG) and have been a Primary and Final FRCA examiner since 2006.
Dr. Ehtisham I Khan RCSI Hospital Group, Ireland Regional Anaesthesia Workshop APICON 15 Dr Ehtesham I. Khan is a Consultant Anaesthetist and Intensivist at RCSI Hospital Group, with over three decades of clinical experience across Ireland and Pakistan. His expertise spans anaesthesia subspecialties, intensive care medicine, perioperative optimisation, critical care, education and regulation around medical practice. A committed educator, he has examiner for the College of Anaesthesiology of Ireland, the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, European Diploma of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, as well as universities across the Caribbean and South Asia. His leadership within the College of Anaesthesiology of Ireland has included roles as Vice President, Council Member, and Chair of the Credential Committee. Nationally, he chaired the National Clinical Programme in Anaesthesia and served on key HSE and training committees. Since 2014, Dr Ehtesham has been instrumental in building collaboration between the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan and the College of Anaesthesiology of Ireland, enabling Pakistani trainees to undertake structured training in Ireland. His academic output includes over thirty-five peer-reviewed publications and international presentations in perioperative medicine, pain management, and critical care. He was recently elected as a national representative to the Irish Medical Council, where he is member of training and education, registration and fitness to practice committees.
During APICON15 we will explore how anesthesiologists redefine clinical pathways, integrating perioperative excellence and patient-centered leadership to optimize outcomes and shape a modern culture of care.
